Frequently Asked Questions
The registration fee is 360 euro before May 15th. How much is that in dollars?
The value of the dollar versus the euro fluctuates. It is best to check with your local bank at the time to see the current value. Currently 360 euro is $ 443 USD (March 2018). The late registration fee is 400 euro = $492 USD (March 2018).
What is included in the Workshop price?
The workshop and lessons for the week program. Travel, housing and meals are not included.
How do I apply?
It’s easy. Send the Registration Form with payment to the VenetoJazz Office. The registration form is on the website at www.venetojazz.com.

Is the workshop taught in English?
Yes. There are Italian translators in each class but the faculty teaches in English. A good basic knowledge of English is important.
What is the Workshop schedule?

What are Special Topic Seminars?
Special Topics are specialized subjects taught by our faculty. They range from topics such as “The Art of Improvisation”, Breathing Techniques for Musicians”, “Ear Training” and “Learning to Listen”. These classes give the student and faculty an opportunity to expand on more traditional subjects and explore various aspects of music and musicianship. Special Topics change each year.
What are the prerequisites for attending the workshop? Is it necessary to have a Conservatory diploma or a music degree?
It is not necessary to have a diploma or degree to participate in our workshop.
Are the classes taught in levels?
Students take a theory test the first day to determine their level. Theory is taught in three levels – beginning, intermediate, advanced. Master classes under twenty students are taught together with consideration given to the varying levels. Students are also given a performance evaluation for placement in combos. Special Topics are selected by the student and are open to all.
How many students are in each class?
The classes have an average of 8 to 10 students. All students attend the Special Topics and Theory classes. Master classes are instrument specific.
THE FACULTY
Who are the faculty?
The faculty are performing New York musicians teaching at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City and three teachers of Music Accademy “F. Venezze” in Rovigo.
HOTELS AND LOADING
Is housing provided?
No. Students may choose from several local hotels and student hostel in Chioggia. It is recommended for students to stay in Chioggia for easy access to the workshop and related evening events.
Do the hotels and restaurants offer discounts to students attending the workshop?
Certain hotels and restaurants in Chioggia offer discounted prices to individuals attending the workshop. In the HOTELS section on the Veneto website (www.venetojazz.com), you will find hotels, phone numbers, addresses as well as some prices. In order to receive restaurant discounts, students must show their pass, which will be distributed on the first day of the workshop.
REGISTRATION
Will I be comfortable if I am a new player?
Yes, the workshop has players of all levels. Basic knowledge and understanding of jazz is required.
Are there scholarships available?
No, scholarships are not available for the workshop fee.
Do you have to be a NewSchool Jazz student to attend?
No, all jazz musicians are welcome to attend.
What is the age range of the students who attend?
The age range is from 17 on with the majority of students are between 17- 26. For minors, a parent’s authorization is required.

Is there an audition to get in?
No audition is required. All students are accepted to the Workshop.
Will I receive a certificate for my participation in the workshop?
A certificate of participation is awarded to every student who participates in the workshop (minimum one week). The President of Veneto Jazz, the Admission Director of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music as well as the Cultural Director of the city of Chioggia sign the certificate.
Is it possible to audit the workshop and not participate?
No, it is not possible.
May the vocalist take part to the combos?
Vocalists are not placed in combos until they have received approval from the vocal and combo teachers, usually in week two. All vocalists must observe this process. Vocalists will be evaluated for their vocal proficiency including reading, writing a chart and leading a band. Vocalists work as a group on technique, improvisation and repertoire. A rhythm section is provided.
If I register and cannot attend, do I get my fee returned?
Refunds will be considered on an individual basis by the VenetoJazz workshop coordinator with a written request only.
A charge of 20% will be applied to cancellations before May 31, 2018.
A charge of 50% will be applied to cancellations after May 31, 2018.
There will be no refunds after the 15th of June, except for specific cases that will be determined by the Workshop Coordination
DIRECTIONS
How do I get to Chioggia?
If you’re coming from outside of Italy, the best way is to fly to Venice Marco Polo airport and take the bus to Piazzale Roma (Venice) and then the bus from Piazzale Roma to Chioggia. The bus arrives in the center of town and the hotels are easily accessible by walking.
From the MarcoPoloAirport, Venice
The airport also offers bus service provided by ATVO FLY BUS and ACTV. Take the Bus to Piazzale Roma, there is a bus to Chioggia every 30 minutes.
From Padova:
Take the Bus SITA S805 from Bus Station (it is on the left of Railway Station) or from Padova Autostazione.
From Bologna:
- Take the train to Rovigo and then change route to Chioggia. On the website www.trenitalia.com / Passes , check the train schedule (there aren’t a lot of trip)
- Take the train to Padova and then the Bus Sita S805 (follow the directions at Padova Railway Station)
- Take the motorway Bologna-Padova. Exit at Monselice and take the “Monselice – Mare Street”. Follow the signs to Chioggia
From Milano:
Take the motorway A4 and then exit at Padova Est, continue to Bologna and exit at Padova Interporto. Then turn right and follow signs for Chioggia
